It's hard to know where to start with this extraordinary CD - it is so incredible and different to anything else we have heard. A good place to start might be to talk about the artist Neil Patel a.k.a. N1.
We first met Neil during a live performance he was giving at the London Yoga show in 2010, after being informed that he was a Kriya yogi from the London Center. It didn't take more than a minute to realize that we were watching a yogic powerhouse with a special message. Neil's performance showed what an art form Hip Hop can be as he combined rap and yoga into one stirring, probing, poetic song. If Tagore had ever written rap, this would have been it! To get an idea of what Neil's unique form of Hip Hop is all about, watch this brilliant Youtube video of The Key. Listen carefully as he delivers a metaphysical rap on everything from Kriya to The Holy Grail! Neil is reaching an entire new audience with his message of yoga and compassion.
Warning: this CD is probably not suited to playing during long meditations and does contain some mild hip-hop language!
Hip Hop however is only a part of Neil's life as he is also a cancer survivor extraordinaire and is working to educate people on the nature of cancer and how to deal with it or beat it (see Neil's book in our book section: What is Disease?. In January 2000 Neil was diagnosed with cancer and given a very short time to live. Ten years later he is not only still defying the predictions of so called experts, but is one of the busiest and most active people we know, racing through life hitching fate and the Gods to his chariot of indomitable will power. Today he is teaching yoga at his successful London studio, helping people understand cancer, and introducing Kriya yoga to a new, young audience. If that doesn't deserve applause and support, we don't know what does.
