The future impact of The Holy Science upon mankind cannot be underestimated. We say future, because it is ahead of its time by approximately one yuga! The scope of The Holy Science is vast - Sri Yukteswar explains the universal evolution of consciousness, energy, and matter - the entire spectrum of experience that we call 'life.' All this is written in less than 100 pages - perhaps Sri Yukteswar saw that attention spans would get shorter and that books would eventually be read on Kindles and Iphones!
In 1894 Mahavatar Babaji commissioned Sri Yukteswar to write this book, (first published in French), to point out the harmony underlying all religions. Babaji doesn't commission just anyone to write books - enough said!
Paramahansa Yogananda wrote in the foreword, "Swami Sri Yukteswar...was eminently fitted to discern the underlying unity (of the great religious teachings of East and West). Placing the holy texts on the spotless table of his mind, he was able to dissect them with the scalpel of intuitive reasoning, and to separate interpolations and wrong interpretations of scholars from the truths as originally given by the prophets."
Perhaps The Holy Science is best known for Sri Yukteswar's remarkable explanation of the yugas - the vast recurring cycles that cause the rise and fall of civilizations. Groundbreaking, and far ahead of its time in 1894, Sri Yukteswar's writings have recently become the subject of growing scientific interest as astronomers and astrophysicists seek to prove his treatise on the yugas. This work is being led by such organizations as The Binary Institute and through books such as Lost Star of Myth and Time.
