This is a most delightful tale that had us engrossed! The duke's castle is abuzz with rumors that a unicorn must be near. Tales of wondrous deeds that prove its presence are everywhere. A once-foul stream suddenly runs clear. An injured woodsman is miraculously healed. An early spring has come.
Greedy for the unicorn's magical horn and valuable hide, the duke and his men prepare to hunt it down. Can it be that Tanisa, a humble serving girl, is the only one who understands that to kill the unicorn would bring disaster? Has her childhood friend, the duke's son, changed so much that he too will join the slaughter? Or is the enchantment found in the unicorn's eyes enough to save the magnificent animal?
The illustrations are amazing - full of beauty and magic. Greg Spalenka brilliantly blends real images into his paintings to present a striking world of make believe.
