1982 by Ron Hart, The Divine Gypsy is perhaps the best known and most beloved
of all SRF's recordings of Paramahansa Yogananda's Cosmic Chants. Performed on
a Moog synthesizer, this instrumental recording (originally released on
vinyl!), has the power to transport you to a place of instant peace, no matter
where you are or what you are doing. It might surprise you to know that this CD
is in our top ten. We have probably heard it a thousand times in the background
at various temples, or while waiting for a call to be put through at SRF's headquarters, and
yet it never loses its freshness.

About
the artist: Ron Hart received his BFA in Music Composition from Ohio University
in 1969 and continued his post-graduate work in Composition and Film Scoring at
UCLA. Besides being a regular organist
at Self-Realization Fellowship's Lake Shrine and Fullerton temples, Ron has
played and recorded with a variety of new age, classical and jazz artists
including jazz guitarist Bill deArango (Dizzy
Gillespie, Charlie Parker), bassist/producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock), Jorge
Strunz (Strunz & Farah), drummer
E.W. Wainwright (McCoy Tyner, Fats Waller),
South Indian violinist L. Subramaniam and many others. In 1981 Ron started Indie label ShadowLight
Records and released the Dancing Moments
album by the jazz fusion band, the Landress/Hart Group. In 1982 Ron recorded for SRF, The Divine Gypsy, followed in 2003 by Where Golden Dreams Dwell. In 2006 he started a new Indie label,
PureBeam Music, and in 2008 released The
Light Beyond the Atoms, a four-movement suite of original music featuring
Ron on grand piano with synthesizer orchestration. The music is intended to take the listener
within and the movements are designed around four of the soul qualities
described in Paramahansa Yogananda's God
Talks with Arjuna, The Bhagavad Gita.
The movements' titles and qualities:
Daya (compassion/daya);
Simplicity's White Robe (purity/sattva-samshuddhi);
Baba Anand (radiance of character/tejas);
Train is a'Comin' (patience, perseverance/dhriti).
Editor's note: To this day Ron remains one of the most charming and cheerful
people on this planet.
