"I was really surprised to discover that stores selling quality Australian opal at reasonable prices were practically non-existent. Even all of the jewelry-sections of department chain stores I visited only sold "imitation" laboratory created opal, and that type of "synthetic opal" pales in comparison to "natural, real opal." Not only were the brilliant colors of real, vibrantly-colored Australian opal difficult to find, but on the rare occasion when I did find "quality opal" products, the prices were too high.
