This album by Swami Nirvanananda, recorded in California in 1999, captures all the energy and spontaneity of traditional call / response kirtan as he is joined with a chorus of about 100 devotees. These well known traditional Indian chants are recorded in a very informal setting, hence the audience response is unpolished, but full of heart.

About the artist:
Swami
Nirvanananda was born in Italy
and after traveling to India
many years ago was initiated into the Dashnami Vedanta Order and became a
wandering monk. His Guru is
Paramahansa Yogananda. A gifted
musician, Swami Nirvanananda spends much of his time traveling the world
chanting to the Master. Each year he travels to Italy
and other countries in Europe, then to the United
States and on to Hawaii,
before returning to India.
We
had the
pleasure of meeting Swami Nirvanananda at one of the many kirtans he
gives
around the world and found in him a very sweet and humble soul. Given
how he
chants, that was no surprise. Swami attends the SRF convocation each
year but
he is so quiet when not chanting that he is easy to miss - as we did for
twenty
years! If you get a chance to hear him chant live, we recommend you do
so.
All
proceeds
to Swami Nirvanananda's CDs go to support his charitable
projects in and around Puri, in the East Indian state of Orissa. For
