means, The Joy of Chanting the Divine Name, a perfect name for this CD as
Brahmacharini Mirabai exudes joy whenever she chants. This particular recording
was made during her visit to various SRF temples and centers in the United
States in
1997. These chants represent a broad spectrum of bhajans in Sanskrit, Hindi,
Bengali, and Rajasthani, including songs by the medieval saints Mirabai and
Surdas; verses from the Guru Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam; and bhajans composed
in honor of Paramahansa Yogananda. Brahmacharini Mirabai plays harmonium and is
accompanied by sitar, vichitra vina, tanpura, tablas, pakhawaj, khol, ektara,
bells, conch, flute, gong, violin and cymbals. English translations of each
chant are provided in a nice booklet.
